Midwest Archaeological Research Services was started in 1984 by Dr. Rochelle Lurie. Jay Martinez joined the MARS team in 2006 and trained and worked under Rochelle for 10 years. In 2016, Rochelle retired from contract archaeology, and the Martinez Family purchased MARS.
To date, MARS has completed more than 2,000 archaeological investigations throughout the midwest.

While attending graduate school at Northern Illinois University, Jay worked at MARS under Dr. Rochelle Lurie. Upon graduation, Jay joined the team full-time. In 2016, Rochelle sold MARS to Jay and his family.
Jay is a member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists, a member of the Illinois Archaeological Survey, and is SHPO-approved to conduct archaeological investigations in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Iowa.
Kathleen M. Martinez
Managing Director/Chairperson
Mrs. Martinez completed her B.S. in Business Administration at Columbia College, Missouri, in 1994. She has been a licensed Real Estate Broker since 1995 and is currently a licensed Managing Broker in the State of Illinois. During her career, Mrs. Martinez has been involved with all matters relating to land entitlement and development, including archaeological surveys and investigations.
